The uncertainty about the Canarian derby continues. Due to the high number of infections, the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands advises: “The capacity must be reduced considerably”, explained Blas Trujillo, responsible for the area. The final decision is expected to be made on Wednesday afternoon at the Interterritorial Council and will affect both football and basketball.
It will be then when Tenerife know exactly if they will be able to have 100% of the Heliodoro capacity for Sunday’s derby against Las Palmas, a situation that seems unlikely.
“It is something that has been modulating. In August it began with a capacity of 40% in open spaces. As of today, 100% are allowed in openings and 80% in closed ones (basketball). There is a unanimous agreement and that will be seen tomorrow. We cannot maintain these capacities in any way, they have to be reduced considerably,” insisted the counselor.
What’s more, Trujillo gave the Andalusian Government as an example, which has announced the suspension of the Super Cup match that was going to be played in Córdoba. “Tomorrow, Wednesday, the agreements will be discussed and we will proceed with updating the epidemiological data to adopt an agreement on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning,” he said.
Thus, the Canarian derby is on its way to be played with restrictions. It remains to be determined how many: either with limited capacity or closed doors, an end that no one wants to confirm. Meanwhile, Tenerife has suspended the sale of tickets for the match and Las Palmas is pending a resolution to start with their sale or not.
