Fabiola Martínez: “My goal now is to be financially independent”

Fabiola Martínez wants to have an identity for her work and not for being the ex-wife of Bertín Osborne with whom she maintains an excellent relationship.

So much so that in this interview we asked her if there would be a distant future in which they could meet again as a couple. She takes it with humor and ensures that the important thing is her present and focus her working life towards a field that she has always liked: decoration.

She is happy with her change of house. From the outskirts to a central neighborhood in Madrid where his son Kike is already greeted by the neighborhood. She continues with his work at the Bertín Osborne Foundation and has decided to go back to study.

She has enrolled in a double degree master’s degree. From her disagreement with Isabel Gemio, everything is forgotten and she herself jokes when we tell her that she is very pretty.

She maintains a splendid relationship with the singer’s daughters, of whom she says “we are family.” With Eugenia Ortiz, the second, she shared the presentation of small fighters.

A campaign promoted by the Dodot children’s company and the association of premature children (Aprem). The company manufactures diapers for newborns weighing 500 grams and less.

Both Fabiola and Eugenia had premature babies. The first to Kike and Osborne’s daughter to the twins Leticia (she died after eight days) and Sandra, who is now eight years old.

I am happy as I am. Alone, for the moment, and delighted with myself. I can not complain.

That “for now”, what does it mean? Is it hiding something?

Very easy to explain. That nobody can close to love. And when it has to arrive, it will arrive. I am very well, excited and working in this new stage of my full and happy life.

He has a fantastic relationship with Bertín. Could they come back?

The doors of my house are open because it goes in and out to see the children. It is part of my family life. Now of my emotions it has only one section. Return? Well no, not tomorrow, not the day after, not the next. There is no reason to stumble over the same stone. Now, we get along really well.

Because we do more of our part to avoid causing conflict. Before it was the other way around. Day to day wears out and we both have character. We are very confident.

How did your children handle the separation?

At first Carlitos with uncertainty. As happens to all children who ask questions like: «What is going to happen? Where am I going to live? As you see that we get along very well, you are already calm. And Kike notices it too. What he cannot do is express himself as his brother and ask in his own way.

Is Bertín spending more time with you now?

He is there whenever he can. The work of an artist is not a closed agenda with a fixed schedule from eight in the morning to three in the afternoon. When he is not preparing a program, they are interviewing him or on tour. It’s complicated. Now he is preparing for the weekend of December 11, 12 and 13 a paddle tennis tournament for the Foundation. And also he plays.

How have you adapted to the new house in the center?

It is a spacious, comfortable apartment, everything is at hand. The children have adapted very well. For Kike, everything is easier. Before we took him out to the garden and he lived in his bubble. Now he goes out into the street, he hears noises, there is a bustle and people in the area greet him. It is a more stimulated life. I like the field, but my circumstances are what they are and now moving around is easier. Everything has its advantages.

Is it difficult to have your personal space with a child who demands so much attention?

It is, but you learn to organize yourself and the needs of Kike and Carlos also change.

Where would you like to direct your work life?

Right now I am aiming to be financially independent. Although I have always tried to be, but you want me not to rebound. If Bertín took care of the expenses of the house and I did an advertisement, it would come in for me. Now we are both responsible for the care and well-being of our children. I love decoration and I also know how to do it and I have done it. I am in contact with an interior design studio to reach an agreement. And one important thing, we are going to launch an application where we will gather all the information so that families can choose the resources they need.

And television?

I am very grateful, but in the end it is the environment of Bertín. Of course I am open to collaborations and to attend programs, but my inclinations now are different. At the age of 15 she was already independent when she worked as a congress hostess. He sharpened the pencils, put the pages, and passed it to me. At a conference I met a person in charge of Miss Venezuela, it was then that life took me by another path and I left the Medicine career, which was what I was studying at that time.

With regard to Venezuela, has it changed at all?

There is less information and that is why it seems that things have improved. But it’s not like that.
