LONDON – A woman who fled Britain as a teenager to join the extremist group ISIS lost her legal attempt to return to the country and fight for her citizenship, which was revoked on national security grounds.
Shamima Begum was one of three students from East London who traveled to Syria in 2015.
He reappeared in a refugee camp in Syria and told reporters that he wanted to go home, an opportunity that was denied him when former Interior Secretary Sajid Javid withdrew his citizenship.
Britain’s Supreme Court ruled on Friday that he should not be allowed to return to the country to pursue his case.
Javid claimed Begum was of Bangladeshi origin, so he could go to the Asian nation.
The woman appealed the ruling, claiming that she is not a citizen of any other country and that Javid’s decision made her stateless.
