The Army of Ukraine has denounced this Friday that two soldiers have died in five bombings registered against the positions of its Armed Forces in the Donbas region, in the east of the country.
The press center of the Joint Forces Operation has indicated on its Facebook account that “during the last day five violations of the ceasefire were registered in the area of the combined forces operation.”
Thus, it has indicated that a soldier has suffered a gunshot wound near the town of Záitsevo, but has died shortly after after being transferred to a hospital in the area. A second soldier has also died near Novomijailovka after being wounded by the shots of a large-caliber machine gun.
“The command of the joint forces expresses its sincere and deep condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased soldiers,” according to the Sputnik news agency.
Since April 2014, Ukraine has carried out an operation against separatist militias in Donbas, where the Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics were proclaimed in response to the violent change of government in February of the same year.
The Minsk Accords, signed in September 2014 and February 2015, laid the foundations for a political solution to the conflict, but have so far not resulted in the cessation of violence. The hostilities have so far left some 13,000 dead, according to UN estimates.
