Blizzard is currently working on a new, mysterious project. The LinkedIn profile of Game Producers Maxine Virtue provides information about this for the first time. Virtue is said to have been co-producer on a project called ‘Fenway’. And nobody has ever heard of that before. In the meantime, the entry has also been deleted.
What is the “Fenway” project?
At the moment, only Blizzard itself knows what exactly is hidden behind the name ‘Fenway’. There are rumors, but they are not based on facts, but rather on a gut feeling.
Just a code name? It’s not uncommon for developers to use code names to hide the real nature behind their projects. Gabe Newell from Valve, for example, recently explained this after he was asked about the mysterious “Citadel” project. Accordingly, ‘Fenway’ may not be the name of a game, but rather another project.
What are the rumors claiming? There is currently the assumption that the remake of Diablo 2 could be hidden behind the name ‘Fenway’. At the same time, it could also be a completely new series. A Netflix production is also possible. Ultimately, however, we still have to be patient for concrete answers.
Will we find out more at Blizzcon 2021?
Am February 19, 2021 starts Blizzard’s in-house exhibition Blizzcon – this year completely digital. It is entirely possible that the studio will announce ‘Fenway’ at this event.
It is also very likely that we will see something new for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands then and Overwatch 2 will also have an appearance. It is also possible that we will learn more about the mobile offshoot Diablo Immortal or the Warcraft mobile games.
