A teenage girl has unintentionally become the protagonist of a viral video that combines terror with humor.
It was a few weeks ago when a curious clip began to go viral and generate intrigue. As if it were an apparition out of a Hollywood movie or a legend of the living dead, a diabolical nun appears in the middle of the day at the National Fair of Durango in Mexico, as seen in the video that has been seen by millions of people.
Standing at the center of a spinning mechanical moving attraction, with her black veil and twisted fangs, the nun dances, hip-swinging and shaking her shoulders to the rhythm of a Mexican corrido remixed in tribal style.
It is a viral clip that has not stopped being shared on social networks, especially in recent days on the eve of Halloween and Day of the Dead, which has accumulated millions of views since it was shared by users last summer.
The popularity of the video, which was initially shared on the social networks of the company that organizes the fair, Espectaculares García, has turned the character into a current icon of the holiday in Mexico, where she is already called “La Monja de la feria” (The Nun of the fair).
Even the virality of the character has gone even further, as some people have used their creativity to emulate the costume, including the spinning wheel. There are even those who have dressed up their pets as the popular character from Durango.
Who is the Nun of the fair?
Present at the traveling fair almost every day in Durango, underneath the creepy mask of the 2018 horror character, The Nun, a film derived from The Conjuring saga, is a teenager who seems not too impressed by her sudden fame.
Contrary to what many thought, that who was under the habit was a man, this is Pamela Jasso Perez, a 17-year-old girl from Celaya, Guanajuato, who along with her husband had the idea of amusing the attendees of the colorful fair with her costume to the rhythm of the song Las Monjitas, by Grupo exterminador, in a remix made by DJ Monst3r5.
Pamela, who works animating the attractions at Espectaculares García, was recently questioned by the media Más Durango, to whom she showed her identity under the mask and shared that the dance she performs is a tribute to a friend of hers who passed away at the age of 25, who liked to dance like this.
“I feel great, I feel like I’m remembering my friend, and I know his wife is grateful that we’re honoring him like this,” shared the young woman, who was somewhat camera-shy.
The young woman, whose original clip has more than 73 million views, appears calm and discreet when she is not wearing the terrifying mask, in contrast to the extroverted dance moves she shows off in the various videos of her that are already circulating on the Internet.
Pamela also shared that it was her husband who suggested her to dance to the narcocorrido from the 90’s, as it would match her costume and the fact that it is about the Durango fair, a state mentioned in the lyrics of the song.
Since it began to go viral, the company Espectaculares García has shared other clips of the nun, including some with “special guests”, such as characters from other recognizable horror movies and even a man characterized as Freddie Mercury.
Added to this are videos capturing the experience of those attending the Durango Fair, who have uploaded their own clips. In addition to the various “imitations” of his show, DJ Monst3r5’s remix has also become popular and is now part of a trend on TikTok, where users take it to accompany their videos.
