Jessica Lange considers retirement due to current industry behavior

The legendary actress Jessica Lange, winner of two Oscars, said in an interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph that she is considering “gradually leaving the movie business” and the reason for her disappointment with the film industry is the current behavior of the studios in relation to productions.

“Creativity is now secondary to corporate profits,” said the actress. “The emphasis is no longer on the art, the artist or the narrative. It’s about satisfying their shareholders. It diminishes the artist and the art of filmmaking.”

Among the criticisms made by Jessica Lange are “big comic book franchise movies”, “frantic editing” and ethicism. “They’ve sacrificed this art that we’re involved in… for the sake of profit,” Lange continued. “I don’t know if it’s because the filmmakers think they can’t hold the audience’s attention anymore… That kind of cinema drives me crazy.”

Although Jessica Lange thinks she won’t be missed if she stops working, Lange has been one of the most sought-after actresses of recent times. She has acted in productions such as American Horror Story (2011) – which won her two Emmy statuettes, Feud (2017), and upcoming projects include the adaptation of Long Day’s Journey into Night and the feature Places, Please.
