California SNAP: When Your CalFresh Benefits Will Arrive in August
CalFresh, California’s SNAP food stamp program, has specific criteria for sending benefit payments each month, so now you can find out when you’ll receive your benefits in August.
We are just days away from the end of July and many Americans are already looking forward to August to collect the array of benefits for which they may qualify. One of the programs that sends out payments each month is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and, in California, it is known as CalFresh. For all residents of this state, one question arises: when do these benefits arrive?
When a low-income person finds it difficult to bring food into their home, they can apply to their state’s SNAP program, known to many as food stamps because of the way these government resources used to be sent. Today, the money is deposited to a prepaid debit card known as an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.
Although SNAP is a federal program, state governments coordinate and administer the funds, so certain qualification requirements, as well as the amount and timing of the money vary from place to place. In other words, the dates on which CalFresh deposits payments may not be the same as other U.S. states.
California CalFresh makes payments within the first 10 days of each month.
But that might not tell you much, as the criteria for determining when you will receive your SNAP payment will depend on the last digit in the recipient’s case number.
That said, here’s what California’s SNAP payment schedule would look like in August:
- August 1, people with 1 as the last digit in their SNAP case number.
- August 2, people with a 2 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 3, people with 3 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 4, people with 4 as the last digit of their SNAP case number August 5, people with 5 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 5, people with 5 as the last digit of their SNAP case number August 6, people with 6 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 6, people with 6 as the last digit of their SNAP case number August 7, people with 7 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 7, people with 7 as the last digit of their SNAP case number August 8, people with 8 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 8, people with 8 as the last digit of their SNAP case number August 9, people with 8 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 9, people with 9 as the last digit of their SNAP case number August 10, people with 0 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
- August 10, individuals with 0 as the last digit of their SNAP case number
In California, the average payment per qualifying CalFresh (SNAP) person is $196 per month.
SNAP amounts depend on the size of each household and other factors, such as income. In this regard, the maximum benefit amount for a one-person household is $281; for a household of two it is $516; for a household of four it is $939; and for a household of eight it is $1,691. An additional $211 is added for each additional member.
