Social Security: New payment and increase of up to $140 extra in 33 U.S. states for August
The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program provides money to people with disabilities, blindness, but also to seniors with low incomes. That is why, in addition to the federal SSI amount, there are some states that make the decision to give an extra benefit during the month.
The arrival of a new month means an influx of resources for all beneficiaries who receive money from the Social Security Administration (SSA). While all those who are affiliated with the organization get money if they already meet the established requirements, one group of people get the income first: those who are part of the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program, who will also get an increase in their benefits if they live in any of the 33 U.S. states that made the approval for the month of August.
What is the schedule for August and when will the money be received?
According to the Social Security Administration (SSA) schedule, SSI recipients receive their new income on the first of each month. This means that the money will be in their hands by Tuesday, August 1, after they did not receive their July payment on July 1, because it fell on a Saturday and is ineligible for the organization.
This does not mean that they did not get their July payment, but that they received a double check in June, which implied the amount corresponding to June and July (whose payment was made on Friday, June 30).
The amounts awarded by the federal government are allocated as follows:
- $914 for an eligible individual.
- US$1,371 for an eligible individual who is married
- 1,371 for an eligible individual who is married -$458 for an individual who is classified as essential
The Supplemental Security Income Program gives money to those who suffer from a disability, suffer from blindness, but it is also intended for seniors who have low incomes. That is why, in addition to the federal SSI amount, there are some states that choose to give an extra benefit during the month.
This is not enabled in all states, it was only approved, in the case of the month of August, in 2023, for the inhabitants of 33 states. This is a benefit that is intended to provide a little extra money to Social Security beneficiaries who receive the lowest income.
