The next few hours will be of great anticipation for the whole country with his trip to New York, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, former President Donald Trump would arrive in court, his lawyers say they will work to make one short appearance.
Former President Donald Trump returns to Mar-a-Lago tonight on the eve of his trip to New York.
Trump is scheduled to appear before a judge Tuesday in lower Manhattan on at least 30 counts related to alleged document fraud in connection with secret payments to cover up an extramarital affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels.
Constitutional prosecutor Joseph A. Malouf explains: “They submit the indictment, he enters, enters his plea of guilty or not guilty. The court then sets a trial date and asks him to come back at that time.”
The judge who will hear the case is Juan Manuel Marchan of Colombian origin. The former president mentioned this accusation on his social networks, saying in particular: “the judge in charge of my witchcraft case hates me”.
Back at his golf club on Sunday, a handful of supporters were still visible outside his property, whom he briefly greeted from his vehicle.
Amidst all the expectations surrounding this historic case, his lawyers took the opportunity to present their defense on national television, specifying that their client “is preparing for the fight” and that they hope to leave the hearing quickly after having pleaded no guilty.
For its part in New York, security preparations are already ready before the possibility of demonstrations.
Trump’s plane is already on the runway at West Palm Beach airport. He is expected to arrive at New York’s LaGuardia Airport on Monday evening and sleep at his Trump Tower residence. He would arrive in court at 1 p.m. Tuesday where his fingerprints will be taken, but there are no plans to handcuff him.
The Trump campaign announced that after his appearance, the former president would deliver a speech at Mar-a-Lago around 8 p.m.
“That doesn’t mean it will disqualify him as a presidential candidate or lead to imprisonment,” remarks Telemundo 51 political analyst Mike Hernádez.
Political analysts and several members of the Republican Party say they don’t think it’s a good idea for Trump to speak to Mar-a-Lago on Tuesday after appearing in court because it could affect his case. However, the former president’s lawyers are adamant that they have a very strong defense.
