During the recent financial report, CD Projekt mentioned Project Sirius, one of the upcoming games set in the Witcher universe.
Some time ago there was not very optimistic information about the Witcher game named Project Sirius, which emerged from an announcement to investors. In it, CD Projekt revealed that it had to write off costs for the project, which some industry websites took as news of a full restart of work. Since then, the game’s future has been uncertain; according to a company representative, no decision has been made on his fate.
CD Projekt released its financial results for 2022, which were discussed on a show, much of which was the question and answer section. It is from there that we learned more about the situation of the Sirius project.
Piotr Nielubowicz, the company’s vice president of finance, pointed out that Sirius is something completely new to the team in terms of design and different from the studio’s other big titles. Additionally, he said:
“To stay competitive, we must continue to find new ways to expand our brands. At the same time we must be prepared to reconsider our initial concepts, even if the work is already underway. It’s a difficult decision (to amortize the costs – editor’s note) but we think it was the right one. (…) We don’t want to continue with a project that we don’t feel comfortable with”.
From the above words, it can be concluded that even though the Sirius Project has not been completely restarted, there might still be some big changes in its premise. We don’t know how much this will affect the further development process and the fate of the game. Initially, it was said that it would feature a multiplayer game mode, as well as a single-player campaign.. Jobs posted a while ago suggested that the game could include a procedurally generated world, among other things.
The fact that the Sirius project is in the works was confirmed in October last year. The studio responsible is The Molasses Flood, which was acquired by CD Projekt Red in 2021. In addition to Sirius, two other games set in the Witcher universe are in development: Project Polaris (the next big installment in the series after Wild Hunt, known colloquially as The Witcher 4) and Canis Majoris (a remake of the first The Witcher).
