A video complaint comes to us from the southern border. What these migrants have in their hands are the appointments to appear before the immigration authorities and begin their application for political asylum.
They requested the appointment through a CBP One digital app. But when they arrived with it in front of the authorities – they say – they were not allowed to enter.
Sources at the border confirmed to us that Customs and Border Protection officers are tracking migrants who have paid for an appointment on the free app, including through stricter identity checks.
The migrants concerned assure that their appointments are not fake and that they were not bought.
They say it’s punishment, after several migrants – mostly Venezuelans – burst into the Paso del Norte border bridge in Ciudad Juárez last week.
