They say ‘youth is a state of mind’ and apparently the new Netflix original movie Did you find what you were looking for? is a sample. The Mexican feature starring Álvaro Guerrero and Andrea Chaparro has arrived in the catalog of the streaming service and in a few hours it has already positioned itself among the most popular on the renowned platform.
The production directed by Yibrán Asuad follows the story of a retired radio host in Mexico who decides to work in a supermarket to earn some money and be able to travel to Mexico City. His goal is very specific: to attend an evening where he hopes to reunite with his great love of youth. The path will not be easy for the protagonist since he will have to join forces with a couple of young people to be able to fulfill his mission and the generation gap will be felt. The young and the eldest must learn that one can learn from the other and that if they are not “immature”, he is not “too old” either.
Although in the film Álvaro Guerrero, who brings one of the protagonists to life, says that “the classics will never go out of style”, the film tries to mix the two parts, that is, a classic and simple story of a dramatic comedy film, without great pretensions, but adding current things like gender equality and contemporary affective relationships. The film seeks to immerse the viewer in the learning experience of older adults and also to learn from new generations. This work shows that there should not be such a communication gap between adults and young people.
Some specialized media called this feature film “simple, simple and charming”. Indeed, most critics recognize the work of Álvaro Guerrero and the story that manages to convince a wide audience ranging from the youngest to the adult. In addition, the performance of Eduardo Minett and Andrea Chaparro was also highlighted, who create a team that manages to make the public laugh but also to reflect on the importance of affective relations between generations.
During the press conference preceding the premiere a few days ago, Yibrán Asuad stressed the importance of the fact that classic stories continue to reach the cinema or streaming, as long as they are in a real social context, according to what is lived today. . . “In a way, we are trying to unite the past and the present in a single story. Basically, that’s what our story is about, showing that both sides can converge and not only that, but also feed each other and I think that’s the main message of this project”.
This idea raised by Asuad is one of the main reasons why Alvaro Guerrero wanted to participate in this film, considering that the differences between the two generations are not so great. “Time is wise but every generation is also different, today I see things differently because of the experiences I have had and it makes me see life differently. They (young people) will have their own experiences and see life in their own way, but both ways are valid and can complement each other”.
