The actress Hunter Schafer from “Euphoria” wore one of the most controversial dresses at the Vanity Lounge party after the Oscars.
The design in question hit the red carpet just off the runway, and it’s part of the debut collection of Ludovic De Saint Sernin by Ann Demeulemeester presented in Paris a few days ago, as explained by Variety.
Page 6 noted that the transgender actress kept her makeup minimal for the evening, opting for little more than a subtly smoky cat eye. She accessorized with two Mara Paris rings, including the dainty Silver S Ring ($225) and the funky Flux Ring ($159).
The model quickly drew attention on social media. “I wish I could trust people as much as Hunter Schafer trusts this piece of fabric,” one person tweeted.
Another commented, “My first thought was, ‘It must be very cold!'” “I would be afraid to move,” someone else wrote, while a third replied, “My nipples could never.”
However, not all comments were positive. Some wondered, “When will nudity STOP being an accessory?!!!” While another wrote that the actress “missed the rest of the dress” and continued, “She’s beautiful, but that doesn’t mean she looks good.”
The controversy surrounding the design began when several Spanish media outlets shared that the dress worn by the “Euphoria” actress was almost an exact copy of the one chosen by presenter, model, and television contributor Cristina Pedroche to say goodbye to the year on December 31. Pedroche’s dress was designed by her trusted stylist, Josie.
Schafer spoke with Harper’s Bazaar in 2021 about her modeling career as a trans woman, her time on television, and her life after success on “Euphoria.” “I want to have longevity as an artist in whatever form. The only thing I trust is the evolution of my way of making art. It’s something that grows in me all the time. But there’s no plan,” she said. “I am not attached to a career. I want to do everything. I’m very lucky to have the space and the resources to just… try new things and see if they stick.”
