The Ministry of Health (SSa) reported the existence of 51 confirmed cases of monkeypox virus, in the national territory, in the last 14 days. According to the bimonthly technical epidemiological surveillance report, although there are still people with the active disease in the population, the number of cases has decreases in the course of 2023.
The number of 51 confirmed cases could increase as there are 74 people whose symptoms could be linked with disease caused by Mpox. However, the exact figure is one of the lowest in recent months according to reports provided by health authorities.
Throughout 2023, the reported figure on January 10 when they were 59 confirmed cases. Fourteen days later the number had risen to 72 cases, although on February 7 it was down again and stood at 70. The trend continued and by the February 20 deadline, 49 people with the disease were reconfirmed, the lowest number of the year with two less than reported in the most recent report.
Thus, as soon as the first patient is confirmed with symptoms corresponding to those caused by Mpox, In Mexico, 6,559 probable cases have been recorded. Overall, 3 one thousand 928 have been confirmed with the presence of monkeypox virus, while 2,338 were rejected. Meanwhile, 293 are under investigation and awaiting confirmation or discarding statistics.
The entity with more cases confirmed by Mpox is the Mexico City (2 thousand 029)Jalisco ranks second with 402, followed by the 361 accumulated in the State of Mexico, as well as Quintana Roo with 238 and Yucatán with 169.
Meanwhile, the five states with the lowest number of accumulated infections are Durango, with three; followed by Zacatecas and Sonora, each with five confirmed cases. In fourth place is Colima, like Baja California Sur, as each of the states has reported 6 people with the disease.
Regarding the distribution by sex, men predominate with the presence of the virus with 97%. Similarly, the age group that presented the greatest number of cases is that of 30 to 34 years. In this sense, they concentrate 1,025 of all confirmed cases inside the country, or 10.8 cases per 10,000 inhabitants.
On the other hand, from May 28, 2022, the date on which epidemiological surveillance intensified due to the presence of the first confirmed case, and until March 6, 18 deaths were associated with symptoms caused by Mpox. According to the authorities, only four have been confirmedwhile two were rejected and 12 are being analyzed.
Worldwide, the low level of lethality of the disease has been confirmed. According to the World Health Organization (SGD), in 110 countries with epidemiological surveillance, the existence of 86,000 369 confirmed cases accumulated. However, only confirmed 108 deaths associated with the operational definition of monkeypox.
