This month is the opening of the new Super Mario World amusement park and in April we will see the release of the Super Mario Bros movie. in theaters, so Nintendo fans can’t wait to get a new super mario game. Although nothing is announced yet, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that Nintendo is still working on a new Mario game, something we could all have long assumed.
The last mainline game in the Super Mario series was Super Mario Odyssey, which arrived on the Nintendo Switch in October 2017. This was followed by the 2019 re-release of New Super Mario Bros. U. Deluxe, Super Mario 3D. in 2020 and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury in 2021, the latter being accompanied by an expansion with new content.
Given that more than five years have passed since the release of Super Mario Odyssey on Nintendo Switch and the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie is just around the corner, Nintendo is expected to announce a new plumber game this year. However, let’s remember that Super Mario Odyssey was announced and released within a period of six months, so the same could happen with the next main installment of the series.
Shigeru Miyamoto recently did an interview with IGN during the opening of Super Nintendo World, where they took the opportunity to ask why a new Mario game for Nintendo Switch hasn’t been announced. This question was politely answered by Miyamoto, who said that “We are still working on Marioso when we get to a time where we can share information, we certainly will.”.
I don’t think anyone is surprised to hear that Nintendo is still working on a new Mario game, its main mascot, but at least we have official confirmation from Shigeru Miyamoto. For now, we just have to wait, both for the premiere of The Super Mario Bros. in April this year and for the announcement of a new Super Mario game, which we hope will also happen in 2023.
