The VAR came to Argentine television. This happened unexpectedly and amid controversy over a participant’s response to The 8 Million Stepsthe cycle that leads Guido Duck on the screen of El Trece.
“Pablo, according to the traditional version of the famous children’s tale, there are two little pigs that escape from the wolf that knocks down the houses”, read the driver while the participant listened attentively, and had to answer if this assertion was true or false. .
Without hesitation, he replied in the affirmative. “Incorrect, wrong,” remarked the driver, who added, “There are three.” The player immediately retorted and tried to justify why he thought his answer was correct. “Do they not take refuge in the house of the third party? “, he said, repeating the sentence that had triggered the discord.
Nicole Neumann, the jury of the question-and-answer program, intervened and gave information on the name of the famous children’s tale: “The three little pigs”, referring to the number which they considered correct. “But they don’t run away, they take refuge with the third party,” insisted the participant. And in the background an “ah” among several was heard, coinciding with his logic.
“Yes, but he (for Kaczka) asked about the two escaping. The third is no exception”, the participant once again established his idea.
So he went back and forth with the driver, who ended up agreeing with him, following the cycle production instructions. “There are two of them whose houses have been demolished, who are leaving…”, Guido began. “…to the third,” replied the player. “In other words, those who escape are…” Kaczka continued. “Two,” added the participant and reinforced the concept by making the number with his hands.
“That’s correct. Correct -repeated the host-, the third remains”, he ratifies and adds: “The production tells me that your answer is correct. Congratulations, Pablo, for the first time the control has taken place. C is valid as an answer.
Happy, smiling and after receiving unison applause from everyone in the studio -even Nicole Neumann, who initially discussed the response with him-, Pablo joked that the VAR had intervened, making reference to the technological system applied to football to review certain plays.
A few days ago, the driver had challenged a participant who had taken a long time to return the board with one of her answers when all her opponents had already done so. “According to the government of the city of Buenos Aires, every meter traveled, does a token fall on the clock of a taxi?”, read aloud the driver in one of the questions of approach .
While the participants were writing their answer and showing it to the jury, María Eugenia took longer than expected and the driver repeatedly informed her. “You haven’t looked back, María Eugenia,” he marked her, but the woman didn’t take it for granted and continued to write and erase on the board.
“María Eugenia, you have to turn things around, because everyone else has,” insisted Guido, who again received no response. “María Eugenia…”, repeated the driver. “That’s it,” replied the participant after doing the same as her opponents but without giving any explanation or justification for her delay. Meanwhile, the slow response placed her among the three finalists, although she was only able to advance in the last instance.
