The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition development team continues to work hard to improve its performance on PC. According to CD Projekt, more optimizations are on the way for the remastered RPG game, including better CPU core usage and better performance for ray-traced shadows and global illumination.
Patch 4.01 brought some ray tracing performance improvements for The Witcher 3: Enhanced Edition earlier this month, but in a forum post dated February 13, CD Projekt points out some remaining issues that the studio is currently working on. . These include better CPU core utilization and improved performance from the DirectX 12 version of the game, which you’ll run into if you want to see all the fancy ray-traced lighting effects.
This build will see performance improvements in future patches, according to the review.
The Witcher 3 team is also working to reduce the amount of light leaks that occur when ray-traced global illumination is enabled, and are investigating the issue of shadows appearing and disappearing from the ray-traced vegetation based on how close Geralt is to them and the angle from which they are seen.
We can also expect to see the horizon-based ambient occlusion option restored on PC. HBAO is a technique for rendering shadows around objects in a scene, and it can be a good alternative to ray tracing, although it can also be quite demanding on hardware. Of course, if you’re concerned about performance, the Witcher 3 best settings will help you strike a balance between frame rate and fidelity.
We’ve put together a great list of the best open world games on PC, and the CDPR RPG is here, along with plenty of other great adventures.
