Although not as flashy as some of the other Web3 games, Upland has quietly remained one of the most played blockchain games since its release in 2020. Since then they have expanded to over a dozen cities and added more depth to your game. It’s been a while since we’ve written about Upland, so let’s catch up on what they’ve been up to lately!
Upland continues to grow: adding new cities, new customizations, new block explorers (avatars), new partners, and more. Their newest addition, 3D avatars, allow players to create and customize their character for use in future 3D experiences!
Upland also seems to have a constant and ongoing series of events available in its game. Some of the current events include a Big Game Challenge, a sale of carnival decorations, and a fundraising project for the Susan G. Komen Foundation (raising awareness of the breast cancer).
Great game challenge
The Big Game Challenge started on February 6 and will continue until February 9. In the week leading up to the Superbowl, players who own an NFLPA Legit (Essential or Memento) can participate in this event and win tickets in the daily draws. Participants earn “Soccer Points” by completing up to eight daily activities.
Players who complete all events and earn maximum points will receive a rare Golden Turtle Block Explorer. Daily raffle rewards include UPX and Spark, as well as Football Turtle Block Explorers. Read the official blog for all the details and the list of rules.
Sale of Carnival Decorations
For those who love to decorate, this Friday (February 9), Upland is hosting a Carnival-themed decorating sale. The sale begins Friday, February 10 at 9 a.m. PT. Designed by Upland players, these ornaments are all limited edition. Plus, designers receive a share of the funds used to purchase their decorations!
Trims are specific to certain structures, so be sure to choose the correct ones when purchasing! Apparently, you will also need to register for this sale. Registration opens February 9 at 8 a.m. PST and closes one hour before the sale opens.
Susan G Komen Buildings in the Highlands
Upland will soon include three new Susan G Komen buildings. Susan G Komen is a well-known non-profit organization focused on breast cancer awareness. These will be used as gateways to provide players with breast cancer information and resources. As part of a community project, anyone can contribute Spark to help construct these buildings. They are located at:
- Chicago: 2451 West Gunnison Street
- Dallas: 2101 N. Carroll Ave.
- Los Angeles: 17533 Devonshire St.
What is Uplands?
Upland is a free city building and property trading game where players can explore cities, collect properties and meet other players. The play to win game is available on Android, iOS and on the web.
Each Upland player is assigned a status determined by their net worth based on their properties and token holdings. The different ranks are Away, Uplander, Director, Executive, Pro, and Chief Executive. When a user first joins the game, they are assigned guest status. And while players can buy properties early on, they can’t sell them until they reach Uplander status.
The official currency of the highlands is the UPX. However, it is only an in-game currency and cannot be exchanged between players.
Players earn passive UPX just for owning a property. They also receive income whenever another player is “sent” to a property of their own. Additionally, players can complete in-game collections by owning specific properties (five properties in the same city, for example). These provide a one-time UPX payment and then a passive increase in UPX earnings as long as you maintain this collection. Players can also purchase UPX tokens directly from Upland.
The highlands have expanded considerably over time and now encompass more than a dozen towns. They also introduced customization, allowing players to construct buildings and decorate their properties, as well as building tools for third-party developers. Players can also own shops, selling their own custom block explorers!
