A person was “engined” on a plane at Montgomery Regional Airport while one of the plane’s engines was running.
A crew worker at the Alabama Regional Airport died last Saturday when he was sucked into the engine of a parked plane.
The person, whose name has not been released, was “engined into the engine” of a plane at Montgomery Regional Airport, the National Transportation Safety Board told Insider.
The plane, an Embraer 170, was parked at the gate with its engine running after arriving from Dallas. The flight had been operated by Envoy Air, which is a subsidiary of American Airlines.
The person who died was an employee of Piedmont Airlines, a regional airline also owned by American Airlines.
“We are devastated by the accident,” American Airlines said in a statement to Fox Chattanooga, adding: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members.”
Montgomery Regional Airport said in its own statement that the company was “saddened to learn of the tragic loss of a team member.”
The person died while one of the plane’s engines was running, Reuters reported, citing two people briefed on the initial investigation findings.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
On July 30, 2022, in another dramatic aircraft-related accident, a co-pilot jumped and fell out of a plane at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, making an emergency landing after experiencing landing gear issues.
The body of the co-pilot identified as 23-year-old Charles Hew Crooks was found in the backyard of a Funquay-Varina residence during search efforts.
The plane that was involved in the fatal accident had a capacity for 10 people. Only two people were on board the plane when it took off, but at the time of the crash landing the pilot was the one in the plane.
