The Nevada forensic sheriff confirmed that the death of Kiely Rodni, the teenager who disappeared after attending a party and was found dead inside her SUV at the bottom of a reservoir, was accidental.
The death of Kiely Rodni, the California teenager who was found inside her SUV at the bottom of a reservoir weeks after she was reported missing, has been ruled an accident.
The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said 16-year-old Kiely had drowned in a lake near Prosser Creek Reservoir after a party on August 6 at a nearby campground, The Sun reported.
“There was no other information to suggest that she was the victim of a criminal act,” the coroner said in a statement. “As always, our office will continue to work with the family evaluating any additional information related to this investigation.”
Kiely’s autopsy was carried out in late August, more than two weeks after the teenager was reported missing.
She had been attending a graduation party Aug. 6 near the lake at Prosser Creek Reservoir, where she was drinking, other partygoers said.
She was 16 years old at the time of her death.
Kiely was reported missing when she didn’t come home that night. Her phone rang near the water around midnight and then apparently turned off.
Police searched the camp for signs of the missing teen, using helicopters, diving equipment and ground crews, but had no luck.
Her death has been ruled an accident.
Rodni had drowned in a lake near the Prosser Creek Reservoir after a party Aug. 6 at a nearby campground.
A volunteer diving group, Adventures With Purpose, discovered a body in an overturned car on the bottom of the lake on August 22 that was soon identified as Kiely.
She was discovered about 20 to 40 feet from the water’s edge near a section designated for family camping where the party she attended was held.
Authorities have not disclosed how she ended up in the water.
