A man who pretended to be a police officer robbed a business in the Bronx in the middle of the day while carrying out an “inspection”.
According to the NYPD, the suspect entered the store near Richardson Avenue and East 237th Street on September 12 at 12:50 p.m. and he told the employees that he was a police officer conducting an inspection.
The fake agent then began demanding that the workers give him some merchandise and when the clerk asked for some identification the suspect pretended to have a gun and a shield on his waist, police said.
The shoplifter then took some items valued at about $90 and put them in a black bag before fleeing in an unknown direction. No injuries were reported, Pix11 said.
The NYPD released a photo of the suspect wanted for the incident. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and in Spanish 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Also through crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by text message to 274637 (CRIMES), followed by TIP577. All communications are strictly confidential.
In a similar case, in October of last year two men posing as federal agents tricked a parking lot attendant in the Bronx and made off with hundreds of dollars in cash.
