The World Health Organization (WHO) has moved a reassurance message regarding fabric masks: remain effective. On the occasion of the new coronavirus mutations, more contagious than the previous ones, Maria Van Kerkhove, responsible for the management of the pandemic at the WHO, wanted to clarify this matter.
“Cloth masks continue to be effective, even against new variants of the coronavirus, because the mode of transmission is the same”, the expert has affirmed in a press conference.
Cloth masks can be used by everyone under the age of 60
“Cloth, non-surgical masks can be used by all people under 60 years of age who do not have particular health problems. “Kerkhove insisted.
“In areas where the virus circulates, you have to wear the mask when people are crowded together and it is impossible for them to be at least one meter apart from each other, and also in rooms with little or bad ventilation”he added.
Measures in Germany, Austria and France
According to the imposition of German and Austrian type FFP2 or surgical masks in shops and transport, and French government petition for citizens to stop using cloth masks, believing that they do not filter enough, Kerkhove has pointed out: “Countries are free to take the measures they deem necessary.”
