With the aim of promoting the culture of prevention, and within the framework of the XXXVIII, as well as the VI anniversary of the earthquake of September 1985 and 2017the authorities announced the completion of the First national exercise of the year 2023. The trial will take place next April and will count on the active participation of nine States of the Republic.
In a press conference held on March 22, 2023, the National Civil Protection (CP) Coordinator, Laura Velázquez Alzúa, announced that the completion of the First national exercise It will take place on April 19. On the occasion of the prevention exercise, the authorities will trigger the seismic alert in nine States. In this sense, people residing in the Mexico City, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Michoacan, Morelos, oaxaca, Puebla, Tlaxcala there Chiapas who hear the alarm must remain calm and follow the indications in the event of an earthquake.

For the first national exercise of the year 2023, the authorities have established an earthquake hypothesis magnitude 7.5 degrees. Meanwhile, in the 16 mayors from Mexico City (CDMX) will activate the audible seismic alert in the C5 loudspeakers located in the streets and public buildings. Likewise, the radio and television stations that have the service, as well as the stations of the Mexican Institute of Radio (IMER) will alert the population of the start of the exercise.
Despite the fact that the Civil Protection authorities announced the hypothetical conditions that will lead to the simulation, the national coordinator clarified that each local body in the entities of the Republic will have the freedom to determine its particular conditions, considering that all States are exposed to the effects of an earthquake.
“The purpose of this preventive public policy action is promote the culture of civil protection in citizenship, review the safety of the property where we live or work, as well as its surroundings, and design escape routes to determine meeting points. In the same way, it allows us to learn how to act in the event of a real emergency or disaster,” the official said.
Another of the objectives of the realization of the First National Simulation of the year 2023 is the evaluation of the internal programs of the Civil Protection, as well as the coordination of the actions between the state agencies of the same branch.
One of the actions that will be implemented by the National Civil Protection Coordination (CNCC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Instruction (SEP), is the implementation of a platform of the register to have information on the number of schools by level of education and the participation of pupils and teachers in the schools.
