Russian president Vladimir Putin said this Thursday that reducing carbon emissions is a “achievable task” while ensuring that Russia reduced its emissions more than “any other country” due to the restructuring of its industry.

“We must not forget that when we compare the levels with the 90s we have reduced our emissions more than many other countries”said the president. “This has been possible thanks to a restructuring of our industry and our energy sector more than two decades ago.”

“Development must not only be green, it must be sustainablePutin said.

The Russian president added that Russia plans to achieve “carbon neutrality by 2025” and spoke about the need to achieve “strong international cooperation to achieve a reduction, seek new technologies for mitigation and adaptation” in the face of climate change.
