He united states government greeted this Thursday the massive mobilizations in Georgia for the defense of democracy, after Tbilisi decided to drop the proposal Foreign Agents Act.
“The problem with all of this is that over not just the past two weeks, but several decades, the people of Georgia have made it very clear with their voice, with their expression, that they want a democratic and prosperous Georgia integrated into the Euro-Atlantic region“, explained the spokesman of the US State Department, net price.
Price assured at a press conference which The United States “will continue to be a partner in these aspirations.”
The US spokesperson joined in the statement by the American Embassy in Tbilisiwho celebrated that “once again the Georgian people have made it clear that the only option for Georgia is a secure and prosperous European future”.
Thus, the Embassy supported the decision of the withdraw invoices from a foreign agent and urged the ruling party not to pursue this type of legislation, as it is “incompatible with Georgian and European values and the protection of fundamental freedoms”.

“We encourage Georgia’s political leaders to work together fervently on the urgently needed reforms to achieve the EU candidate status that Georgians overwhelmingly desire,” the diplomatic office statement said.
Washington encouraged Georgia to complete the reforms needed to one day join the European Union (EU), after the Georgian authorities decided to withdraw the law on “foreign agents”, after two days of mass demonstrations.
“We encourage Georgian political leaders to work together on the reforms needed to achieve candidate status for EU membership.something Georgian citizens overwhelmingly want,” Ned Price added.
This Thursday, the promoters of the controversial bill in the Eurasian nation – the People’s Force movement and the ruling Georgian Dream party – “unconditionally” withdrew their legislative initiative, already approved in the first reading by Parliament.

Critics see the draft as reminiscent of the law that, since mid-2020, Russia has used to repress and ban critical opposition viewsNGOs, media and human rights activists calling them “foreign agents”.
From Moscow, the Kremlin assured that it had nothing to do with the crisis caused in Georgia by this regulation, while the Georgian opposition announced that it would continue the protest actions, because it does not trust the ruling party announcement.
