Two British police officers were injured while trying to end an illegal party that brought together more than 200 guests in London, security forces said in a statement on Saturday.

The partygoers attacked the agents as they tried to escape from the party that was held last weekend amid the restrictions against the coronavirus in the country.

More than 30 guests were fined 200 pounds each (about 224 euros) after attending the meeting. “Meanwhile, a large group remained inside the premises. A cordon was placed at the entrance to facilitate the detention of more people who were illegally gathered inside,” according to the authorities’ statement.

The police have closed the place for three months. The owner had already been fined 1,000 pounds (about 1,100 euros) for a prior violation of the restrictions.

This incident has not been an isolated event. Also last weekend, the London Police closed another illegal party with 30 guests. The owner of the building faces a fine of 10,000 pounds (11,200 euros).

“Attending or organizing such parties during this critical period is an incredibly selfish decision to make and we will continue to take action against those who break the rules,” warned the superintendent of the Metropolitan Police Basic Command Unit, Michael Walsh.

The UK is currently under a strict lockdown. Meetings with members of other households are widely prohibited, with few exceptions. British Home Secretary Priti Patel recently announced plans to quadruple the fines for a first offense to 800 pounds (900 euros).
