Buenos Aires, March 7. The number of foreign tourists arriving in Argentina by plane last January increased by 127.8% compared to the same month in 2022, but has not yet returned to pre-pandemic levels, official sources reported on Tuesday.

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) reported that in the first month of the year, around 266,800 foreign tourists entered the country by air, compared to 122,100 arrivals recorded in January 2022, shortly after the lifting of health restrictions to travel to the country. With the rise recorded in January, the indicator has 19 consecutive months of strong recovery.

However, the number of tourists arriving by air last January is still below pre-pandemic levels for the same month in 2019, when some 339,200 people arrived by air in the South American country.

In 2022, approximately 1,691,100 tourists landed in Argentine territory, representing a year-on-year increase of 700.9%, while in 2021 the number fell by 69.9%, to 200,600, compared to the already low records of 2020 affected by the coronavirus.
