BRAZIL- Various lands belonging to the Amazon are being illegally sold in Brazil through Facebook Marketplace. The lands, in the hands of indigenous communities, are openly sold without government intervention to stop illegal acts.

According to the BBC, plots with sizes of up to 1 thousand football fields are sold without papers for the sum of 35 thousand dollars. When searching on Facebook Marketplace it is possible to find various announcements of the sale of land from native communities.

From Facebook they have reported that they will work with the local authorities on the matter, and that given the complexity of the case they prefer not to intervene and put themselves in the hands of Justice.

If required, the Environmental Crimes Unit of the Brazilian Federal Police could contact Facebook and it would provide the necessary data to monitor the ads and request their removal.
