The Civil Guard helped 41 immigrants this Friday who were hidden in containers and other vehicles in the port of Melilla, with the intention of entering Spain irregularly.

As detailed by the security body, of this total four people were in a container full of broken glass for recycling, with the danger that this entails due to the multiple cutting edges, in a journey that lasts seven hours. Another person was found inside an airtight plastic sack containing toxic waste, specifically fly ash from an incinerator. Although in a first visual record, he feared for his life when observing an inert leg emerging from the bag, the rescued regained consciousness after being unearthed from the ashes.

Throughout these two months of 2021, the Civil Guard has located a total of 1,781 people in the security zone of the port of Melilla. Many of them, they affirm from the armed institute, put their lives at risk by accessing the place swimming or hiding in vehicles and platforms that are transported to the Iberian Peninsula.
