There National Council of Justice (JNJ) opened this Wednesday an investigation against the Public Prosecutor, Patricia Benavidesdue to changes to the white collar special teamwhich, according to the agency, is due to the alleged existence of certain telephone communications which implicate it in the process.

The case dates back to 2018, when a series of audio recordings were released with conversations about acts of corruption between businessmen and senior figures in the judiciary at the time. Among those implicated were, among others, Walter Ríos, former president of the Superior Court of Callao; and Cesar Hinostroza, former fugitive Supreme Justice of Justice.

For the head of the public prosecutor’s office, the investigation is “an illegal act” and the “consumption of the attacks since she took the decision to investigate the political power”. In a statement released this afternoon, Benavides added that opening the investigation involves “intimidation and obstruction” of his office as prosecutor.

“The resolution of the National Council of Justice It sucks. He White Collar Special Team it was not dismantled, but was reinforced. In just six months, the listening of all the audios was concluded, which had not been done for four years,” the magistrate said.

“I don’t want to think that this decision is due to the results obtained by the white collar task force, which will end in the coming months with the transcription of the audios with criminal content. Nor do I want to think that this decision is due to the context in which preventive detention was requested against former President Pedro Castillo for acts of corruption and that senior officials of the current government are under investigation for human rights abuses and corruption,” he noted.
