Katia Echazarreta is a 27-year-old girl who, in 2022, was selected to go into space as part of the mission Blue Origin Shepard NS-21of Jeff Bezos. Due to his performance, the Mexican astronaut is part of the collection Inspirational Barbie models (Barbie models, in English).

This range of dolls Mattel seeks to create a scale representation successful and talented women in various professional fields, whether it be actresses, businesswomen, entrepreneurs, web developers, nurses, doctors, models, photographers and astronauts, as it is the case with Katia Echazarreta.

The doll inspired by the electrical engineer graduated from the University of California has a suit Nasa Identical to hers, in navy blue, plus she has the same haircut, but all in scale version, it’s a themed Barbie.

During a meeting with the media, the same engineer mentioned that the doll does not represent any astronaut, but herself. He said his goal is to create opportunities and adequate conditions for other boys and girls can achieve their goals dreams in the same field as her.

It must be remembered that at the age of seven Katya left for outer space, it was at the same time that she moved to the United States, and years later she decided to study the electrical engineering at the University of California.

Other women with inspiring stories that are part of this collection are singer Celia Cruz; the business woman Adriana Azuara, who is also Mexican; Chinese fashion designer, Lan Yu or digital designer Lena Mahfouf, from France.

This collection comes out in March, as part of the International Women’s Day, the day on which this date is commemorated is the 8th of this month. Each year, 12 female personalities whose stories are inspiring are included.

The Mexican astronaut arrived in space because she was part of a project of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, to then be chosen among seven thousand candidates from a hundred countries to join the NS-21 mission.

With his participation — along with six other new astronauts — he has become an icon and an example for Mexican society. “I want to dedicate this flight to my country and to the entire Latin American community. My wish is that you see this mission, that you believe in yourself and that you know that you can be the next”, she expressed through a video.

This experience placed her in all the public forums of Mexico, reaching a meeting with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, and even called for legislation on space issues.

In plenary, the young woman mentioned that it is time for national legislation to take a step forward in space theme.

He felt that if Mexico wants to see a mexican missioncon astronauts selected and trained in the country, as well as with locally developed technology, changes must be made to the laws. Specifically, he referred to the progress with the constitutional reform of Articles 28 and 73 on the matter, approved by the Commission on Constitutional Points.

In December 2022, the young woman stood out in science alongside scientists such as Zitlalli Balbuena; who broke new ground with a moon cleaning project and Giseña Ortiz, who took part in the first photograph taken from the center of the Milky Way.
