One of the big decisions to make when one is installed in a new home is to renovate, or acquire in the event that there are not, the so-called large appliances. The price of these, which includes the refrigerator, washing machine, tumble dryer or dishwasher, can be very high and therefore it is necessary to get the choice right.

The lifespan of them is getting shorter and, therefore, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) has drawn up a list with the brands that last the longest of all the aforementioned appliances. The OCU has carried out a survey among more than 87,000 users from various European countries such as Spain, France, Italy and Belgium. In it, they have answered questions about the duration and reliability of these.

The most popular and most durable brands

With the more than 80,000 evaluations obtained, it is estimated that the typical life span of large electrical appliances ranges from 10 to 12 years on average: some brands exceed it and others, on the contrary, do not reach this longevity.

Of all the brands, the one that is the absolute winner is Miele, as it is the most durable in both washing machines and dryers and dishwashers, in addition to being among the best in terms of refrigerators. Regarding Spain in particular, Bosch and Balay are among the most popular. When it comes to dryers, the AEG brand is among the favorites.

Reliability surveys also take into account the frequency and importance of the breakdowns suffered over the years. As a result, it is determined that the most durable ones are also the most reliable. Refrigerators, according to the report, usually last on average about 12 years.

Longer lasting refrigerators

  • General Electric (15 years)
  • Edessa (13 years)
  • Zanussi (13 years)
  • Siemens (13 years)
  • Ignis (13 years)
  • Electrolux, Miele, Balay, Aspes, AEG, Bosch, Smeg, Liebher and Fagor (12 years)
  • Hoover, Whirpool e Indesit (11 años)
  • Candy, Teka, LG and Hotpoint (10 years)
  • Daewoo and Samsung (9 years)

On these, it stands out that weak points are in the No Frost system, the temperature control and the door closing. Regarding the reliability index (out of 100 points), the brands Kunfet (94), Neff (84) and Panasonic (83) stand out.

Washing machines

Another of the essential appliances in every home. In your case, the Average useful life is around 11 years, although in the case of the Miele brand they can reach 15, well above the rest of its competitors.

Longer lasting washers

  • Miele (15 years)
  • Aspes, Siemens, Zanussi and AEG (12 years)
  • Balay, Edesa, Fagor, Bosch, Baucknecht, Electrolux and Smeg (11 years)
  • Teka, Candy, Hoover, Indesit and Whirpool (10 years)

Regarding these, the most common problems are related to the door and filter. The most reliable are those of Ikea, Neff and Kunft. The least, Candy and Teka.

Like washing machines, it has a half-life of about eleven years, with some markings above it. Again Miele stands out in front of all.

More durable dishwashers

  • Miele (15 years)
  • Neff (13 years)
  • De Dietrich, Zanussi and Siemens (12 years)
  • Balay, Smeg, AEG, Baucknecht, Electrolux and Bosch (11 years)
  • Hoover, Ignis, Fagor, Whirpool, Candy, Teka, Hotpoint e Indesit (10 años)

In this case, more persistent breakdowns have to do with circulation and drainage. The best valued are those of the Sharp, Neff and Saivod brand; on the other hand, Bluesky and Samsung.
