Five people have died in a massacre perpetrated at dawn this Sunday in Buga, Valle del Cauca in Colombia, according to the latest official balance, published this Monday, after the death of one of the people who were injured in the attack.
The deceased is the son of the owner of the Villa Maga farm, located in the center of the department of Valle del Cauca, who was seriously injured in the assault. Two other people continue to be hospitalized for the injuries received, according to the Colombian press.
According to the official version, four armed individuals showed up at the scene around 3:00 in the morning while a group of young people between 18 and 20 years old was gathered. Other sources suggest that it would be an attempted kidnapping.
The victims have been identified as Juan Jacobo Pérez, Juan Pablo Marín, Nicolás Suárez, Sara Garcia and Jacobo Pérez Vasquez. There are also at least two injured, a 60-year-old wounded man and a 17-year-old young man.
Army personnel have traveled to the site where the events occurred and the Colombian President, Iván Duque, has already expressed his concern about what happened.
Thus, he has ordered General Eduardo Zapateiro, Army Commander, and General Jorge Luis Vargas, National Director of the Police, to hold an extraordinary security council.
“I have instructed the Army Commander, General Eduardo Zapateiro, and the Colombia Police Director, General Jorge Vargas, to move immediately to the region. We will find those responsible for the crime. Our solidarity with the families,” Duque pointed out. On twitter.
The Colombian attorney general, Francisco Barbosa, has appointed a specialized team of ten officials to undertake the investigation. The delegate of Citizen Security, Luisa Obando, will be in charge of it.
In addition, the authorities have offered up to 200 million pesos (about 45,700 euros) as a reward for information that allows to locate those responsible for the attack.
This is the sixth massacre in the country, at the beginning of 2021, according to the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz). The last massacre that had occurred in Valle del Cauca was in October last year, specifically in the rural area of Jamundí.
On the other hand, the Partido Alternativa Revolucionaria del Común (FARC) party denounced this Sunday the murder of a former demobilized guerrilla, Juan Carlos Correa Restrepo, assaulted in the San Andrés de Cuerquia municipality, North of Antioquia.
The 35-year-old man was traveling on a motorcycle with his brother when they were intercepted by armed individuals who took away the former guerrilla. The body was found hours later already lifeless.
This is the second murder of ex-combatants in Antioquia so far this 2021. On January 1 in Briceño, former guerrilla Yolanda Zabala was murdered.
