The US diplomatic representation published a statement in which it warns, citing media reports, that there are threats of attacks in public places, both in the Russian capital and in other cities.

The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, María Zajárova, has asked the US Embassy in the country to explain the warning addressed to its citizens about the risk of attacks in the country.

“According to media sources, there have been threats of attacks on shopping malls, train and metro stations and other places of public gathering in major urban areas, such as Moscow and Saint Petersburg, as well as in areas of heightened tension around the world. along the Russian border with Ukraine,” reads the statement from the diplomatic representation.

For her part, Zakharova wondered if the diplomatic mission had sent “corresponding data” to her Russian colleagues through special channels. “If not, what do you mean by all this?” she wrote on her Telegram account.

Weeks ago, US authorities advised their citizens not to travel to Russia, while urging those in the country to seek help from the embassy or consulate if they find themselves in danger.

In a statement published on January 23, the State Department clarified that its recommendation responds to “the current tension along the border with Ukraine” and ” the potential for harassment against US citizens,” among other reasons.
