According to the Ministry of Justice, since 2010 1,468 drug traffickers have been extradited from Colombia to appear before international justice and serve their sentences abroad. The same portfolio states that between 20 and 30 deportees return to the country every month after the sentenced time has elapsed.

A report from Semana Magazine revealed that the penalties do not stop those involved from returning, with more vigor, to continue committing crimes in the country with the new connections created in foreign prisons and with the certainty that the information provided to justice weakened the rival networks.

For this reason, the Government of Colombia and the embassy of the United States set off alarms due to a phenomenon of criminal recidivism. “The fulfillment of their sentence is not an impediment for them to return to their areas of interference”, reads the report.

According to the director of Dijín, General Fernando Murillo, he says that the benefits of collaboration are, in effect, businesses established with international organizations. Especially, Colombian drug lords unite with Mexican cartels, they learned to handle the laws and they knew how the legal investigations take place.

Researchers consulted by the media affirm that the track of deportees is never lost after a conviction in the United States. “When a deportation is announced, a DEA alert is generated for the Colombian authorities to put them on the radar”, They explained, who also point out that they do not have the luxuries of before and are camouflaged in the business world.

The media assures that one of those organizations is the Clan del Golfo, a network dedicated to the export of narcotics to the United States and that is why it is required by the justice in that country. In American prisons they weave criminal networks with new routes, partners and strategies that criminals find difficult to reject.

Furthermore, the report known to the publication says that while the drug traffickers continue to commit crimes, they maintain communication with the justice system to collaborate with information to expose the rival networks. ‘El Guajiro’, assassinated last February in a supermarket in Barranquilla, operated in this way and was assassinated for the damages caused to another criminal gang.

“The account adjustments, the cases of hit men and violence in some capitals of the country such as Medellín, Cali and Barranquilla are the consequence of this rearrangement of the criminal organizations that defend the space they gained when the drug traffickers were extradited”, reads the report.

Semana indicated that among the fears of Colombian justice is that deported as Hernan GiraldoAs a former paramilitary and sexual predator, he led residual criminal networks of the Colombian Self-Defense Forces. Of the new deportees, there are seven on the Dijin radar and several ready for a re-extradition process.

Discreet narcos

If in the first place they were ostentatious of the economic power that the criminal exercise implies, the criminals stop making the luxuries that can be afforded a possible indication for justice. In addition, they modify the way they behave and operate to cause “Greater difficulty in investigative and intelligence work”, reports the medium.

“They do not have jewelry or luxurious vehicles and they live in upper-middle-income neighborhoods. They avoid the use of financial movements, social networks or telephone communications ”, says the document revealed by Semana. The authorities even affirm that they create, through programmers at their service, temporary applications for telephones in order to speak with family members and allies.

“We have detected cases where these drug traffickers order the design of online games and through the chats of those games they manage to communicate”, dictates the investigation, which shows the complete reorganization of the criminal networks.
