A model’s ex-husband and two members of his in-laws were charged in Hong Kong on Monday with murdering her, after police said they found more parts of the dismembered woman over the weekend .
Abby Choi, a well-known “influencer” with over 100,000 Instagram followers who had been featured in various fashion magazines, She was reported missing on Tuesday.
On Saturday, police said that several remains of his body were found in a house: limbs were found inside a refrigerator and human tissue was detected in two jars.
After further investigations at the house, police found what they believe to be Choi’s skull, along with hair and several ribs.
He The model’s ex-husband, Alex Kwong, her father, Kwong Kau, and her brother, Anthony Kwong, were charged with murder on Monday.
Choi’s former mother-in-law, Jenny Li, was charged with obstruction of justice for destroying evidence.
On the property where those remains were found, there was an electric saw and a meat grinder that were used to grind up human flesh, Superintendent Alan Chung told reporters.
Forensic analysis indicated there was a hole in the back of the model’s skull.
“We believe the victim was attacked while in the vehicle (which took her home) and was already unconscious when she arrived,” Chung said on Sunday evening.
According to police, Choi was in a financial dispute with her ex-husband and his family over a luxury property.
She was reportedly last seen by her ex-husband’s brother, who was also her driver. The police said that the family had lied to fool investigators.
The model divorced Kwong and married Chris Tam, a member of a wealthy Hong Kong family. Authorities said Choi’s two children and her ex-husband will remain in the custody of the model’s mother.
Choi’s ex-husband was arrested on Saturday as he tried to flee the city by boat.
A fifth suspect linked to the victim’s former stepfather was arrested on Sunday for “collaborating with criminals”.
The court’s lead prosecutor, Brian Lai Tak-ki, asked for a 10-week postponement to continue the investigation, including forensic examinations of evidence seized from the house where the remains were found and a monitoring recordings of defendants’ telephone conversations.
The model, according to local media, had a net worth of around HK$100 million (US$12.7 million) and came from a wealthy family with businesses in China.
