Closed roads, paralyzed refineries, blocked high schools, tons of garbage accumulated in Paris… protest actions continue to multiply in France after the president Emmanuel Macron has decided to adopt his pension reform without submitting it to the vote of the deputies.
The president, who plays with this reform his ability to act during his second term, has resorted to the controversial article 49.3 of the Constitution fearing defeat in Parliament. with this operation seeks to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.
Amid cries of the opposition and chants of the national anthem, Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne made it official shortly after in the National Assembly, triggering protests in several cities that resulted in more than 300 detainees and police attacks with tear gas and water cannons on the Place de la Concorde.
In response to Macron’s action, Independent deputies announced the presentation of a “cross-party” motion of censure against the French governmentalso signed by deputies of the left opposition, the only way to also bring down the reform.
The motion requires the vote of 287 deputies, a complicated thing since among them should be around thirty members of the right-wing opposition group Los Republicanos, in favor of the reform.
