Since the start of clashes between public forces and civilians in the northeast and Bajo Cauca Antioqueño over operations against illegal mining in this area of the country, various political sectors have pointed the finger at the gulf clan influence the population to continue the miners’ strike.
Initially, the governor of Antioquia, Aníbal Gaviria, assured that the Clan del Golfo forced young people and men to participate in the events at the various obstruction sites. This was announced on the broadcast of Snail News on Saturday March 11, 2023, where he acknowledged that the situation was complex, but thanks to the public force order was restored in the region. He also said he had evidence of Clan del Golfo involvement in the protests.
“Behind these violent protests are these outlaw groups, among which, with absolute certainty, the one with the highest incidence is the so-called Clan del Golfo, of which there is irrefutable evidence, there are videos, there are recordings, there is WhatsApp, which clearly establishes the interference of this group in the demonstrations and in the acts of violence”.
President Gustavo Petro added to these accusations, which assured that the Clan del Golfo handed over money people to pass off excesses and violence as a social strike.
This was confirmed in a thread on his Twitter account @petrogustavo, in which he assured that: “these young people have not received a study and therefore do not even know that they have become violators of human rights. male. Do not care. They received money from the gulf clan to do harm and make this violence look like a social strike. They hurt their own people and their families.
Thus, on March 12, 2023, from security Council in Montelíbano, Córdoba, where the Minister of Defense, Ivan Velazquezthere military command and President Gustavo Petro, the first president sent a strong message to the Clan del Golfo for their alleged participation in the events of the miners’ strike.
“If the Clan del Golfo is behind the strike, as many signs show, it must be said, they have no desire for peace.”
Of the intelligence information processed by military authorities, at least three ringleaders of the Clan del Golfo would have given orders to generate the chaos that was experienced in the region in the midst of the mining strike.
As disclosed Radio Blueamong the members would be Jose Miguel Demoyaknown by the pseudonym of Apple Cinnamonwho would work at the head of the substructure Uldar Cardona Rueda, which is dedicated to the commission of crimes in the south of the departments of Córdoba and Sucre, and in the municipalities of Antioquia de Caucasia, Nechí, El Bagre and Zaragoza.
Another of the leaders who may be linked to the strike is Jose Ramon Zapataalias Gavino, who, presumably, would be the head of the Julio César Vargas Torres substructure, and who has under his control Cáceres, Tarazá, Campamento, Valdivia and Yarumal.
The third boss of Clan del Golfo is alias darioknown as coastal oh Jorgeand whose authorities are not entirely sure of his identity, but who, possibly, has interference in the substructure Yeison Leudo Chaverrawith a presence in Tarazá, Cáceres and Caucasia.
For these reasons, President Gustavo Petro assured after the Security Council that the public force that arrived in this area to deal with the miners’ strike will ensure a permanent presence so that the State accompanies the population.
“The public force which today is massive on the territory, will be maintained. We will try to ensure that any territory liberated from armed organizations, either because they make peace or because they are fought, will always maintain the presence of the State permanently. »
