Guatemala, February 21. Municipal, led by Paraguay coach José Saturnino Cardozo, will look to extend his positive streak this Wednesday when he plays as a visitor against Malacateco on day eight of the Guatemalan Clausura soccer tournament.

Those led by Cardozo are coming off two straight wins and the last one came when they beat Xinabajul 3-0 at home.

Municipal, one of Guatemala’s two most successful teams, sit fourth in the table with eleven points from the first seven games of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Malacateco, led by Colombian striker Feiver Mercado, are forced to win at home, after going three consecutive days without finding victory.

Meanwhile, Comunicaciones, the tournament’s only unbeaten team, will face visiting Iztapa, a team that sacked its coach, Colombian Miltón García, last week.

Xelajú will defend their lead by playing on the road against current Guatemalan champions Cobán Imperial under Mexican coach Roberto Montoya.

In their last game, Xelajú beat Malacateco 2-1 thanks to a brace from Guatemalan striker Darwin Lom.

Cobán occupies the penultimate position of the tournament with only one victory in seven games played.

In another game of the day, Guastatoya, managed by Nicaraguan coach Mario Acevedo, will host Santa Lucía at home, a team that is fighting for permanence in the top flight.

The day will end with matches for Antigua against Mixco and Achuapa against Xinabajul.
