The Moroccan Foreign Minister, Naser Burita, today accepted the invitation from the Israeli Minister for Regional Cooperation, Esawi Frej, -who is currently in Rabat- to visit Israel next September in order to to participate in the second anniversary of the Abraham Accords.

According to a statement from the Israeli government, Frej met with Burita today and invited him to attend the event to be organized by the Israeli Ministry of Regional Cooperation and in which senior officials from other countries will participate.

In his meeting with the Moroccan minister, Frej insisted on the importance of Morocco’s involvement in the efforts to advance the political process with the Israelis, as well as addressed the opportunities for promoting cooperation between Morocco and Israel in different fields.

“Israel and Morocco share several points in common that we must take advantage of to strengthen ties between countries and citizens,” Frej said in a statement collected by the note.

Frej, together with the Israeli Minister of Justice, Gideon Saar, began an official visit to Morocco last Monday that ends today and during which the two Israeli officials met with several Moroccan ministers and signed several agreements.

Morocco reestablished its relations with Israel in December 2020 within the framework of the Abraham Accords, orchestrated by Donald Trump (2017-2021) and which allowed Israel to normalize relations also with the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

The reestablishment of relations has resulted in the reopening of the respective liaison offices, the launch of the airlines and the signing of agreements between the two countries in different fields.
