The plenary session of the Congress of the capital approved this Friday, February 24 a proposal made by the Deputy Carlos Cervantes Godoy National Regeneration Movement (Morena) to ask the head of the town hall of Benito Juárez, Santiago Taboada Cortina, “to refrain from violating electoral regulations regarding personalized promotion and the misuse of public resources”, detailed the Congress in a press release.

Likewise, said proposal asks the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) to investigate whether the dissemination and content of videos called “cineminute“, from the program “purple spikes” in the office of mayor Benito Juárez, projected in the cinemas of the Cinemex chain, constitutes electoral rule violationsand if necessary proceed in accordance with the law.

The short films are broadcast during the advertising space before the start of the films which are screened in the cinema.

In this sense, the exposed document urges Mayor Taboada Cortina to submit a report containing details of the scope of the collaboration agreement on Puntos Violeta, which apparently was concluded by his administration with Grupo Cinemex. In the same way, the cost of production and distribution in the complexes of the said company inside the perimeter was requested.

Deputy Carlos Cervantes pointed out that the videos released show the mayor interacting with the inhabitants of the demarcation and explaining a public policy that he considers illegal. After the presentation, a debate began, where the deputy Héctor Barrera Marmolejo (PAN) considered that “the point of agreement violates the information of the government actions of what he considered to be the highest rated mayor of the capital”.

However, the “Purple Points” which are included in the case, were harshly criticized by the bench of the ice part. Legislator Marcela Fuente Castillo (Morena) affirmed that the 346 properties settled in three of the demarcations governed by the PAN, “they work without protocol effective care services to deal with women in violent situations“, he assured.

On her occasion, the deputy Daniela Gicela Álvarez Camacho (Citizens’ Parliamentary Association) pointed out that the centers managed by the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office to take care of women are insufficient.

In the end, the point of agreement was approved with 20 votes in favor and 16 against.

According to the official statement released by the Benito Juárez City Hall authorities, the collaboration agreement between the mayor and Grupo Cinemex was signed in November 2022.

On the other hand, on February 21 santiago taboadaagain denounced persecution against him for no apparent reason. According to the mayor of Benito Juárez and member of the Acción Nacional, Santiago Taboada, he accused Sheinbaum of undertaking political persecution against him with the alleged fabrication of accusations against those responsible for his demarcation and against him because of political aspirations towards the electoral process of 2024, where the post of governor of the capital will be contested.
