A German Shepherd has gone missing in Australia. Quizz is a police dog who went missing while chasing a suspect, leading authorities to roll out a large-scale operation involving dozens of volunteers and police officers in Brisbane.

The three-year-old dog was separated from his handler while chasing a suspect in a mountainous area near the region last Tuesday, according to local media. The man they were chasing had abandoned a stolen vehicle and tried to escape through the bushes. The dog went after him, entered the thick vegetation and there he lost track.

Queensland Police have been doing their best to find the dog, “much loved” by both the police team and citizens. “Quizz is irreplaceable” Agent Dan McGreevy, the animal’s handler, said in a video posted on Twitter.

The police officer claimed that Quizz’s leash “slipped from his hands during the chase.” “I did not hear a single sound, it was as if it faded: no barking, no howling, no yelling from the offender”.

“As he grew up, I also improved as a person,” he lamented. The authorities have offered a reward for any information that helps to find the whereabouts of the animal, but so far the search has not yielded results.

It is expected that, if they do not find him this Sunday, the search will end. “We will never give up” in search of the dog insisted inspector Michael Thiesfield.
