HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Josh Jacobs, who led the NFL in rushing last season, has received the franchise tag from the Las Vegas Raiders, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed Monday. .
The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision was not announced. They should make the announcement later, the person added.
NFL Network first reported the Raiders’ decision.
Jacobs would earn $10.1 million next season with the tag. The parties have negotiated a long-term agreement and if a resolution is reached by July 15, the Raiders could withdraw the tag.
Jacobs said last week he had no interest in playing under the franchise label, saying he would go from “hero to villain”.
If Jacobs doesn’t sign a fixed-term contract, he’ll play under the terms of the franchise tag or refuse to play and won’t get paid. That’s what Le’Veon Bell did when the Steelers gave him the tag in 2018.
The Packers’ wide receiver, forward Adams, a year ago. Adams forced a trade to the Raiders.
Jacobs has repeatedly said he wants to play for the Raiders, and coach Josh McDaniels has made it clear he wants the star running back to stay.
Jacobs led the league in 2022 with 1,653 rushing yards and 2,053 scrimmage.
