Kim Yo Jong advised Ukraine not to be overconfident in its relations with the United States, one of North Korea’s main enemies.

The younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Yo Jong accused Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski of being behind a campaign for Kiev to request nuclear weapons from the United States.

The accusation is in response to Russia’s move to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus as a pressure measure during its invasion of Ukraine.

Kim Jong Un’s sister, officially deputy department head at the North Korean Workers’ Party Central Committee, is one of the most active and aggressive voices in the North Korean government.

In his latest comments, Kim accused Zelenski of having prepared the publication of an online petition on the Ukrainian presidency’s website. “The fate of the country is being staked,” Kim declared before accusing the Ukrainian authorities of being “possessed by the incurable megalomaniacal belief that they can defeat Russia.”

“All this talk by Zelensky about the arrival of U.S. nuclear weapons, or the independent development of nuclear weapons, is nothing but a manifestation of his own very dangerous political ambition to prolong his remaining days at all costs by gambling the fate of the country and its people,” South Korean media shared in a note.

Zelenski is credited with statements made last year on the use of nuclear weapons but the Ukrainian government claims that his words, delivered at a Lowy Institute event, were misinterpreted.

The senior North Korean official expressed suspicions about the legitimacy of this online petition. “One can interpret that there is a plausible veil of popular expression, but it is also not difficult to guess that (this petition) is the product of a sinister political plot by the authorities,” she said.

Finally, Kim advised Ukraine not to be overconfident in its relations with the United States. “If the authorities and Zelensky believe that they can avoid the powerful Russian fire under the US nuclear umbrella, I would tell them that they are heading down the wrong path for the last time,” he said.
