Lima, 19 Feb. The remnants of the Shining Path terrorist group have three factions “in full operation” in Peru, which are unrelated and one of them remains in arms, according to information from the Peruvian National Police (PNP) released this Sunday by the newspaper La République.
The newspaper indicated that it is a “living test” of the actions of the subversive group and recalled that the Directorate against terrorism (Dircote) of the PNP accuses the president of the Popular Defense Front of Ayacucho (Fredepa) , Rocío Leandro, of being linked to the New Red Fraction (NFR), although he stressed that this has yet to be proven by the authorities.
He pointed out that Dircote indicates that the NFR was born in 1994 by direct order of the founder of Sendero, Abimael Guzmán, and accuses him “of having infiltrated, directed and financed the anti-government demonstrations” which broke out on December 15 in the south of the country. Andina de Ayacucho, in which ten people died.
He added that after Guzmán’s death, in September 2021, he was replaced as NFR leader by his widow and Sendero’s “number two”, Elena Iparraguirre.
The newspaper maintained that in the report prepared by Dircote, and presented by the prosecution to request the preventive detention of six members of Fredepa, “they are accused of being part of the New Red Fraction and that in this state they forged the violent December protests.
“The New Red Fraction exists, it replaced the Sendero Luminoso Central Committee when Guzmán and the terrorist leadership were arrested, and its actions of a political nature are carried out mainly through the Movement for Amnesty and Fundamental Rights (Movadef )”, did he declare. REMARK. .
He added, however, that “little is known” about the NFR “and that it is often confused with the Mobilized Communist Party of Peru (MPCP)”, another faction of Sendero which maintains armed actions in the jungle of the Apurimac river. Valley, Jan and Mantaro (Vraem).
On February 11, seven PNP agents died in Vraem, after an ambush apparently carried out by Shining Path remnants who work in the area with drug cartels.
“There is even a third Senderista group that repudiates the New Red Fraction and the MPCP,” the newspaper said.
In this way, he summarized that the NFR “focuses on political activities”, the MPCP is led by Víctor Quispe Palomino in Vraem, and there is also “a group of senderistas, largely abroad”, who “oppose the strategy of the NFR, which they call ‘Guzmanists’ and ‘traitors’, and label the actions of the MPCP as ‘military extremism’.
The report notes that “between these three groups there is no relationship”, since “they do not respond to a single direction, they do not integrate the same structure nor follow the same strategy”.
Asked about this information, the former president of Fredepa Magno Ortega told the newspaper that this organization “never had a relationship with Sendero Luminoso”, while historian Antonio Zapata maintained that the NFR “is a non- meaning invented by Dircote to justify the prison of the social”. leaders” during the latest anti-government protests.
