Family in emotional tribute to man, 22, who died after taking ‘cocktail of drugs’
A young man described as “cheeky” and “protective” by his family died after taking a “cocktail of drugs”, a coroner has ruled.
Ryan Magee’s body was discovered by Grayfields Sports Pavilion in Hartlepool on May 18 last year. Cleveland Police were called at 4.50pm and officers and paramedics rushed to the scene, Gazette Live reports. Mr Magee’s sudden death was originally filed as ‘unexplained’ and a police investigation was launched.
An inquest a Teeside Coroner’s Court concluded that he died having taken a number of different drugs and that there was no direct third party involvement in his death. Pathologist Dr Jennifer Bolton concluded Mr Magee had used heroin prior to his death.
She added that cocaine and a number of other drugs were also identified in his system. The Hartlepool man was described as a “loved son and brother, grandson and nephew” by his heartbroken family. A number of his family members attended the inquest including his mum, sisters, aunt and grandparents. In a statement the family said: “Ryan was a loved son and brother, grandson and nephew.
“We are devastated by his death. Ryan was the eldest in the family and the only boy. “He was always protective towards his sisters and mum and known for being cheeky. “Sleep tight Ryan now you’re reunited with little nana, granda and Michael.” Assistant coroner Karen Welsh: “Sadly, Ryan succumbed to the use of a cocktail of drugs.” She concluded Mr Magee’s death was “drug related”.
