Moscow, March 7. Russian authorities imposed in Ukraine’s Donetsk region said on Tuesday that Russian forces controlled about half the territory of the town of Bakhmut, the epicenter of fighting in eastern Ukraine.
“Our artillery, our equipment and our troops are inside. They control almost half of Artiomovsk (Russian name for Bakhmut),” Yan Gaguin, adviser to acting head of Donetsk Denis, told Russian television. Pushilin.
Gaguin assured that Bakhmut has become a “butcher’s shop” for Ukrainian troops.
However, he did not rule out Ukrainian attempts to carry out offensive operations in the city in order to prevent its fall.
Previously, Russian experts had claimed that forces from Moscow controlled around 40% of the territory of Bakhmut, where the fighting began more than eight months ago.
For his part, the leader of the Wagnerian mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, admitted on Monday that the Ukrainian soldiers will defend the besieged city “to the end”.
“They will fight for Artyomovsk to the end, of course,” Prigozhin said on his Telegram account.
He also added that Wagner’s fighters also have to do their job to the end. EFE
