Russian security forces have killed five people under investigation for terrorism during an operation in the North Caucasus region.
“Five bandits have been annihilated in a shootout,” the National Anti-Terrorist Committee said in a statement collected by the Russian news agency Interfax.
The operation took place near the city of Kalchik, the capital of the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, against members of an organization that planned a terrorist attack and were hiding on the outskirts of the city.
According to the committee, neither civilians nor members of the anti-terrorist forces have been injured in the assault, which began after “these bandits ignored orders to surrender and began to open fire on the security forces.”
