Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho assured on Tuesday that he has “total confidence and respect for the authorities in Thailand,” the country where his son, Daniel Sancho, is in pre-trial detention for the murder and dismemberment of Colombian Edwin Arrieta.

“I have total confidence and respect for the authorities of Thailand and I am sorry for the commotion that has been created, which I want to make clear that it is not incited by me or by my family,” said Sancho, who had kept silent until now, in reference to the repercussion of the case.

The actor, who arrived last Sunday in Thailand and this Wednesday is scheduled to visit his son for the first time in prison on the island of Samui, wanted to convey his “deepest condolences and condolences to the Arrieta family, who I understand will be in great pain”.

The actor’s son, Daniel Sancho, 29, was arrested on August 5 on the tourist island of Phangan for the murder and dismemberment of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta three days earlier.

Since August 7, the young man has been in pre-trial detention on neighboring Koh Samui, awaiting trial.

“I want to make it clear that my son loves this country, its people and its culture” said Sancho who recalled that Daniel traveled to Thailand, a country he already knew, to practice Muay Thai (Thai boxing).

Sancho arrived in Phangan on July 31, and on August 2 he met there with Arrieta, whom he had met through Instagram a year earlier.

The Spaniard confessed to the crime at the Phangan police station on August 5, and the Police are still preparing the investigation report, which they must deliver to the Prosecutor’s Office before the end of October, from when the trial date would be set in Thailand.

Sancho’s family has hired a Thai lawyer through a law firm in Bangkok – the regulations require the lawyer to be a Thai national – who has met with the accused on five occasions.

In relation to the judicial process, the 48-year-old actor, limited himself to say that he is waiting for the police to deliver their report to the Prosecutor’s Office and the lawyers “to know exactly what has happened”.

Sancho, who acknowledged that his family is not going through a good time, thanked the support he has received.

“I want to thank all the people who are supporting me. I have received thousands of messages every day from close people and friends supporting me,” said the actor.

Sancho revealed that in the conversations he has been able to have so far with his son by telephone and videoconference he has recommended him “to be as calm as possible”.

Silvia Bronchalo, Daniel Sancho’s mother, has been in Samui since August 17 and has visited her son almost daily in the district prison of the tourist island in the middle of a great media attention.
